DONLON is a collaborative artist duo started by Francesca Beltrame and Fabio Cervi in 2021. Our methodology focuses on an experimental approach to storytelling using sound, performance and film. With a shared background in architecture and spatial research, our work aims to break from the solely visual, to collectively explore alternative modes of relation.

For this edition of White Noise, we present Article X, a movement to audio-reactive piece embedded within the ongoing performative iterations of our research project Frost Killed The Lemon Tree, set on the plains of Mount Etna in Sicily. This performance constructs the legal framework for initiating a potential claim and petition to amend the Italian Constitution, advocating for the recognition of Trees as rights-bearing entities. Drawing inspiration from the legal precedent set by Colombia’s Atrato River, which was the first geomorphological body to be granted status as a legal entity with enforceable environmental rights. Article X interrogates the intersection of anthropocentric legal regimes, ecology, and bio-cultural sovereignty.
